Some Shelters Put These Perfectly Healthy Dogs Down...But It"s Time To Stop It

There are so many adorable, loving dogs sitting in shelters waiting for someone to take them home and provide them with the love their adorable hearts deserve. Unfortunately though, dogs and cats with black coats have a tougher time getting adopted.

Known as “black dog syndrome,” theories about why the darker dogs go unwanted have long been disputed. Some argue they carry an “evil” stigma while others claim their unphotogenic fur is to blame. Whatever the cause, it’s something photographer Guinnevere Shuster has set out to combat with her stunning new portrait series.

Shuster, who works for the Humane Society of Utah, shines a light on just how adorable dark dogs can be. Inspired by a similar series for pit bulls, she accessorizes pups from the shelter with floral crowns and necklaces that make them irresistibly adorable. Who could say no to taking these faces home?
